Understanding the Utah CLE Requirement

Total CLE Requirement:

12 credit hours annually

Credit Format:

6 hours must be taken live (in-person or verified E-CLE)
6 may be completed online (self-study)

TRTCLE's Live Programs are verified E-CLE and satisfy the live requirement.

For the CLE reporting period ending June 30, 2023, 6 of the required credits for active licensed lawyers must be verified CLE, which may include any combination of in-person CLE, remote group CLE, or verified e-CLE. The remaining 6 hours of CLE may include elective CLE or verified CLE.

10 hours General
1 hour of Legal Ethics
1 hour of Professionalism and Civility

Compliance Deadline:

Reporting Information:

TRTCLE reports completed courses to the Utah State Bar every 30 days.

Newly Admitted Requirement:

New admittees must complete the Utah State Board’s “New Lawyer Training Program” and “New Lawyer Ethics Program” in addition to 12 general CLE credits during their first compliance period.
