Child Labor Laws
About This Course
Child labor violations have increased by approximately 69% in the last five years. In the wake of this increase, the federal government has made efforts to strengthen child labor protections, and federal agencies have heightened scrutiny for employers to target child labor violations at all steps in a supply chain.
This program will discuss and explain the child labor protections in the Fair Labor Standards Act, occupational safety and health issues for minors, rights and responsibilities for employers and minors, and best practices for employing minors.
Learning Objectives:
- List the sources of law governing child labor protections.
- Explore federal prohibitions on working hours for minors.
- Investigate prohibited occupations for minors.
- Evaluate the method for determining whether students classified as “interns” are entitled to minimum wage and overtime pay.
- Identify best practices for employers who employ minors.
