About The Lecturer
Karla S. George attended New York Law School where she received her Juris Doctorate. Karla received a Bachelors of Science in Legal Studies and a Masters of Arts in Sociology from St. John's University. Prior to beginning her legal education, Karla worked as a paralegal at Robert J. Kurre & Associates, an elder law firm, where she drafted advance directives, wills and trusts.
While at New York Law School, Karla was President of the Domestic Violence Project. As President, Karla was responsible for the management and operation of the Courtroom Advocates Program. She was also a member of the Justice Action Center and a founding member of the Diane Abbey Center for Children and Families.
In addition to Karla's educational experiences, she interned at Sanctuary for Families and with Justice Jacqueline W. Silbermann during her tenure on the bench in New York County Supreme Court. Karla was also a research assistant for the International Review Newsletter at New York Law School. After graduation, Karla joined a boutique law firm in the financial district of Manhattan where she practiced Family Law, Divorce and Civil litigation.
Karla was the recipient of the National Association of Women Lawyers Award and is an active member of many bar associations including the New York State Bar Association and the New Jersey Bar Association. She is also a member of American Bar Association, New York County Lawyers Association, Amistad Black Bar Association and Metropolitan Black Bar Association.
