About The Lecturer
Cheryl Nolan is the founder of Nolan Animal Law. What sets her apart is her exposure to the dog world through her mother’s dog obedience business, Tijera Dog School, which Ginger Nolan founded when Cheryl was four years old. Ginger would bring Cheryl to help train the students at her Saturday morning and Thursday night group classes as well as in the private sessions. Cheryl also joined Tijera Dog School’s teen group volunteering to train and exercise the dogs waiting for adoption at the Gaines Street shelter. When she was 12 and 13, following Ginger’s request to colleagues and good friends, Cheryl held summer volunteer roles at Puppy World, a local pet retailer, and at the veterinary clinic of Dr. Rossoll. She learned first-hand about operating an animal-focused business and working with people who love their pets. This consistent exposure carried through her teens to her college years showing dogs in Junior Showmanship activities and other AKC sanctioned dog shows and fun matches. Junior Showmanship instilled in her a commitment to the core values of always considering as paramount the welfare of the dog, responsible ownership, and good sportsmanship of fair play, dealing fairly with all those with whom they do business, honesty, courtesy, civility, vigorous competition, as well as winning and losing with grace. Cheryl continues to uphold these core values in her law practice.
Cheryl obtained her bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University and her Juris Doctor from the J. Reuben Clark School of Law, Brigham Young University. She is a member of the Board of Trustees Advocacy Committee of the San Diego Humane Society, the ABA Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section Animal Law Committee, and Vice-Chair of the San Diego County Bar Association Animal Law Section. She is licensed in California and Hawai’i. Cheryl lives in San Diego with her three rescue dogs: Nalu, a 13-year-old Papillion/Chihuahua mix with Canine Cognitive Disorder; Nemo, a 12- year-old one-eyed tripod Chihuahua; and Sinatra, an 11-year-old Catahoula Leopard Hunting Dog who puts up with the other two.
