About The Lecturer
AJ Skogerson is a lawyer, content creator, and consultant. A 2002 Creighton University School of Law graduate, AJ has worked in various practice areas, always including a strong emphasis on family law. She now jokes about her significant experience doing all the “ate’s” in family law: communicate, advocate, negotiate, facilitate, mediate, litigate, collaborate, educate, and so on. Today, AJ is particularly passionate about collaborative practice, working closely with financial and mental health professionals on teams to help families in divorce.
AJ is licensed to practice law in the States of Iowa and Idaho. AJ currently serves as Secretary of the Board of Directors for the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. In addition to roles held within several other professional and community organizations, AJ is Past Chair of the Iowa State Bar Association (ISBA) Family and Juvenile Law Section and Past Chair of the ISBA Rural Practice Committee. She has also been an Adjunct Professor of family law and mediation courses at Drake University Law School since 2015. She continues to guest lecture regularly for law students, law firms, professional groups, paralegals, and other educational programs.
AJ and her husband Erik love camping, UTVing, kayaking, flying, and other outdoor adventures. They have three adult daughters and three grandchildren. While Erik and Amy live and work most of the year in Iowa, they work remotely for part of each year in the backcountry of Idaho.
