This Course
Almost every attorney will experience working with or representing a nonprofit organization at some point throughout their career. Understanding nonprofit organizations’ state and federal filing requirements is vital information for many. Attendees of this course will explore these important requirements, from annual filing requirements to 501(c)(3) and donor compliance requirements. The course will cover common issues and concerns with the processes involved, presented by an attorney with over 20 years of experience in the field.
Attendees will learn about setting up a nonprofit organization, the proper entity structure and governance, and obtaining exemptions. Further, they will understand how to advise 501(c)(3) organizations about the IRS’s permissible and prohibited activities, directors’ and officers’ filing, and other compliance requirements once the nonprofit is exempt and advise the tax-exempt entity and donor about the donor receiving a receipt for the donation, as required by law.
This course applies to any attorney who currently works for or represents a nonprofit or is interested in doing so. No background knowledge is needed.
