Generative AI is a rapidly evolving and impactful part of the American national conversation. Lawyers stand to gain substantial benefits from the technology, but as regulated professionals, they bear significant risks related to the proper use and perception of the use of this technology.

This session offers a reasonably detailed analysis of generative AI technology, including its methodologies, design limitations, and significant drawbacks. We also survey contemporary commercial applications of AI from the general public to lawyers and discuss the prevailing ethical and professional responsibility issues facing lawyers, from State to Federal.

This program is ideal for attorneys of any age or tenure interested in becoming competent in AI offerings and learning about the professional responsibility issues surrounding it.

    Professor Romey joined academia as the Director of the Litigation Center at Golden Gate University School of Law in 2017. She is currently a visiting professor at UC Law SF (formerly Hastings) teaching trial advocacy skills and defending depositions. She also teaches Evidence, Criminal Trial Advocacy, Tax Litigation, Federal Taxation, Corporate Taxation, Mock Trial, and Expert Witnesses. Prior to her Litigation Director role, she was Senior Counsel for 11 years at the Internal Revenue Service Office of Chief Counsel specializing in federal tax controversy litigation handling high-dollar complex cases.
