Ohio CLE Requirements

24 credit hours every two years

All credits can be completed entirely through attendance at self-study activities through any of TRTCLE's course offerings.

The Supreme Court of Ohio adopted rule changes to permanently remove the CLE self-study caps for attorneys, effective January 1, 2023. The changes will allow attorneys to comply with their biennial CLE requirements through approved self-study courses.

For attorneys with last names ending with M-Z who have a CLE requirement for the 2021-2022 compliance period ending December 31, 2022, the self-study caps were waived previously under the Administrative Order issued on September 22, 2021, allowing those attorneys to comply with the CLE requirements through approved self-study courses.

COMPLIANCE PERIOD RULE: Attorneys with last names beginning with A through L report in odd-numbered years. Attorneys with last names beginning with M through Z report in even-numbered years.

January 31

TRTCLE reports completed courses to the Supreme Court of Ohio.

Ohio newly admitted attorney must complete 12 hours of new lawyers training, consisting of 9 hours of substantive law topics, 1 hour of professionalism, 1 hour of client fund management, and 1 hour of law office management by the end of the attorney's first biennial compliance period.
