North Carolina CLE Requirement
Total CLE Requirement:
24 credit hours every 2 years
Credit Format:
All credits may be completed online.
Credit Breakdown:
18 hours General maximum
At least 4 hours of Ethics
At least 1 hour of Technology
At least 1 hour of Professional Well-Being
* For 2024 only, attorneys admitted in odd-numbered years will have a one-year compliance period with a 12-hour CLE requirement (from 3/1/2024 to 2/28/2025). Attorneys admitted in even-numbered years will start their compliance under the new two-year cycle with a 24-hour CLE requirement (from 3/1/2024 to 2/28/2026)
* A minimum of 4 hours of Ethics are required under the 24-hour CLE requirement. The new 1 Professional Well-Being hour replaces the previous 1 Mental Health/Substance Abuse hour

TRTCLE reports each month of North Carolina attendance at the start of the following month.
Reporting Information:
TRTCLE reports all credits to the North Carolina State Bar Continuing Legal Education Board.
Newly Admitted Requirement:
New admittees must complete the North Carolina State Bar’s “Professionalism for New Admittees” program during the year of their first CLE requirement.
