Understanding the Montana CLE Requirement
Total CLE Requirement:
15 credit hours annually
Credit Format:
5 credit hours may be completed online through TRTCLE's on-demand courses, and 10 credit hours must be "live" or "interactive", which includes TRTCLE's live videoconference and teleconference courses.
Credit Breakdown:
13 hours General
2 hours Legal Ethics/Professionalism
Compliance Deadline:
March 31
Reporting Deadline:
May 15
*Please note that Montana has a 6-week grace period during which you may earn and report CLE credits without penalty. This means you may attend CLE programs up until May 15 to meet the requirement for the year ending March 31 without being assessed a late fee.
Reporting Information:
TRTCLE reports attendance to The Montana Commission of Continuing Legal Education.
Newly Admitted Requirement:
New admittees are exempt from the CLE requirement during the first reporting year in which they are licensed.
