Alaska CLE Requirements

3 credit hours annually (12 recommended)


On January 17, 2024, the Alaska Supreme Court signed SCO No. 2016 amending Bar Rules 65 and 66 to increase mandatory continuing legal education for active bar members to twelve CLE credit hours per year. Three of those twelve CLE credits must be ethics CLE. The rule will go into effect on January 1, 2025, and the first reporting deadline for the new rule will be February 1, 2026. All credits may be completed online, via on-demand courses.

In addition to the 3 hours of ethics, attorneys are encouraged, but not required, to complete 9 additional hours of CLE each year.

Alaska is a self-reporting jurisdiction. Attorneys may carry over 12 credits to the next reporting period. Attorneys are required to report whether they have completed at least 3 hours of Ethics, as well as whether they have completed the 9 additional hours of CLE.

Attorneys can report their credits online through their member portal on the Alaska Bar Association website.
